Community Service
For community service I worked with Mr. Wilson at Fowler High School. Together we mentored children who wanted to further their career in electrical trades. Some of the children where special needs so we started by teaching them how to use the various tools. I helped my community by helping kids have a chance to get out of the ghettos of Syracuse and by teaching them a trade that will almost always guarantee a job. The service starts at 7:50 a.m. and goes until 2:26 p.m.. There is a need for this service because not all kids are on track and some need guidance to help better their lives. I had to teach kids how to use tools as well as their names, also I had to teach them how to wire various outlets and lighting fixtures. My most memorable experience is when I taught Mike Vader how to wire a plug, from that one lesson he then went on to wire an entire cubical. This tasks impacted his life in a beneficial way by giving him the knowledge to wire outlets and switches. I had a positive reaction to the program because I got to see the smile on all the kids faces and when they had the ambition to want to learn something. I feel I made a difference because I helped better a lot of children's lives as well as my own. Community service has a huge impact on society, it helps people build social skills and learn something along the way. I would recommend my community service because you might learn a thing or two while helping others as well.
